How easy are Jellyfish to keep?

We recommend that you first have experience with keeping saltwater aquariums. If you can keep a reef tank, then Jellyfish keeping will be really easy for most. Key factors to maintain are your salinity, nitrates, and keeping them fed. Feeding once or twice a day is great for moon jellies, and other species too. Feeding live baby brine shrimp that you hatch is considered best, but you can also feed frozen baby brine and PE calanus. Spot feeding will reduce waste, but broadcast feeding the tank is fine too. Careful not to overfeed!

Water quality is also extremely important, jellyfish are mostly water! Maintain stable salinity, and your jellyfish will remain neutrally buoyant. Keep ammonia undetectable by using ceramic bio-media in the filtration. Then keep nitrates low through water changes or by dosing nopox (if you have a skimmer installed). Our JellyKeeper allows the use of a Red Sea nano mat, as well as the Sicce protein skimmer for optimal water quality management.
